Versailles in the 18th Century

After Louis XIV, work continued uninterrupted at Versailles. Louis XVI, for his part, did little, and so, apart from Marie Antoinette's charming touch, it is largely Louis XV's palace that we see before us.

The author meticulously follows all these transformations, which allows the reader, especially when on site, to precisely re-imagine the concerns and daily rituals of a court for which the location, purpose, and even the arrangement of rooms were of crucial importance. (Annotated edition.)
