Mary Magdalene, Paschal Woman. From Prophetic Praise to the Nuptials of the Messiah

Saint Mary Magdalene, a major figure in the Gospel and Christian tradition, receives new light here thanks to an intensive intertextual reading of the Scriptures: Matthew, in his Gospel, not only reported what he knew about her but suggested the greatness of her role through multiple references to the Old Testament.

Eve with sleeping Adam, Miriam and her choir of women after the Exodus, Rachel, the matriarch of Israel, Daniel's prophecy about the saints of the Most High, all prove to be associated by Matthew with the figure of Mary Magdalene.

Using a method proven by exegetes, the author of this essay strives to make more accessible what was undoubtedly more so for Matthew's contemporary readers.
