Volume 3 opens on June 6, 1924, when George Mallory and Andrew "Sandy" Irvine, with oxygen tanks, provisions, and a camera on their backs, left Camp 4 accompanied by eight porters to attempt to reach the summit of Everest.

We follow in their footsteps up to the altitude at which they disappeared. Did they reach the summit? Years later, some personal belongings were found, but their Kodak camera never properly resurfaced.

The manufacturer, however, assures that if the film is still in the camera, it can be developed, even more than fifty years later. Could the mystery therefore be on the verge of being solved…?

This is the question Fukamachi asks himself in Kathmandu, imagining tracking down the camera that was stolen from him and Habu Jôji, who presumably picked it up near the roof of the world.
