According to François Euvé, one must first ask which God we are talking about. More broadly, we must question the principles that underpin modern science and its philosophical and theological presuppositions. Without succumbing to the temptation of concordism, faith and science can engage in dialogue and grant us access to a truth that advocates neither scientistic materialism nor fideistic irrationality.
If science can purify religion of superstition, conversely, religion can help science purify itself of false absolutes.
AUTHORS Jesuit theologian, François Euvé is editor-in-chief of the journal Études. A physicist by training (ENS Cachan), he was dean of the Faculty of Theology at Centre Sèvres.
He is the author, published by Salvator, of *Théologie de l'écologie : une Création à partager* (2021) and *pour une spiritualité du cosmos : découvrir Teilhard de Chardin* (2015). Étienne Klein is a physicist, research director at the CEA and professor at École Centrale de Paris.
Producer of the program "Science en questions" on France Culture, he is the author of several essays, including *L'Esprit du corps* (Robert Laffont, 2021).
