"Time... Akbar is nothing!... Neither the Nest... Nor Ramor!... It is Time that is everything! It is the cause, the original principle... And when temptation seizes the myth... when man opposes the universe and jostles it, it is up to the myth to re-establish order!"
Thus speaks the Guardian of the Nest when Bragon, Pélisse, Bulrog, and Sir the Unknown flee the Finger of Heaven, taking with them the Egg of Darkness that was hidden there. They are accompanied by Kiskill, a servant of the gods who lost her immortality and powers, as well as her virginity, in the arms of an Elect One who is none other than... Sir the Unknown. Together, they must complete the final stage of the Quest.
And it is indeed against time that the race has begun, for there are only two days left to reach Mara with the Egg. Ramor, though still imprisoned in the conch, is growing stronger, and Mara would not be able to contain him without the help of the Egg. Bragon chooses the shortest route and decides to fly over the White March, the stronghold of the sorcerer-prince Tharmine and the land of the noble and proud Jivrain people. Even so, difficulties pile up before them. Their Wind-Eaters are not numerous enough, and the Jivrains are afflicted by an epidemic of Mad Fever that drives this usually peaceful people into a furious frenzy. Events are accelerating, but the crossing of the White March will be but an incident when the time finally comes for everyone to reveal their true colors.
What are Mara's true motivations? Is Pélisse really Bragon's daughter? Will the prophecy of the Old Man of the Woods, who before dying predicted that Bragon would find madness by seeking death, come true for him?... All questions and interrogations find their answers here.
All paths of the Quest converge here to their conclusion. An end worthy of "The Quest for the Time Bird"!
