The true and fascinating story of three Dutch heroes who, like Oskar Schindler, decided to defy horror and saved the lives of over six hundred Jewish children.
MAN'S GREATNESS CAN ARISE FROM THE RUBBLE OF WAR
Amsterdam, 1942. The Nazi flag already flies over Holland, and in places like the Hollandsche Schouwburg Theatre, thousands of Jews await the day of their deportation. Professor Johan van Hulst witnesses the conditions in which terrorized and starving Jewish children await their fate. He cannot remain indifferent to such suffering.
SAVING THE LIVES OF HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN WAS HIS LEGACY
To confront this tragedy, he contacted Henriette Pimentel – the director of the nearest daycare center – and Walter Süskind – the German Jew forced to draw up the deportation lists. Together, they designed a network of tunnels through which they would attempt to save the children while hiding from an increasingly ruthless regime…
THIS IS THEIR STORY
Through the narrative of a Sephardic family trying to escape their grim fate, Mario Escobar reveals the true story of those who saved over six hundred children during the fiercest period of Nazism. This grand and moving novel pays tribute to all these unarmed, flagless heroes who did not hesitate to risk their lives for others.
